Short field recordings made with my iphone in august 2013 while visiting family on one of the many small residential islands located in beaufort, south carolina (of forrest gump, the prince of tides, the big chill, and the great santini fame for any movie buffs out there). The loud buzzing is the ear-piercing mating call of the cicada insect, a sound that's hard to escape in the sultry summer months and semi-tropical environment of the south carolina low country. You can also hear tree frogs and i think maybe some birds too. Unfortunately there's also a little ambient whine of an air conditioner at times and me tip-toeing quietly around on the crunchy gravel dirt road. . . Because i didn't realize my iphone would do such a good job of picking up the sound of my footsteps. :). It is so beautiful that in a few years surely space tourists will go there. In this song i describe the atmosphere there is at that moment. They look at the combination of complexity and simplicity of the rings. Everyone will be very impressed with all the colors that are caused by the refraction of sunlight by the ice present. There are the impressive moons of saturn. The one with more mysteries than the other. At that time maybe life has been found on or in those moons.

A water faucet set to drip in a chaotic manner, without much regularity. I put a plastic container lid under that for sound to be more pronounced, but that added crunchiness and now it doesn’t resemble dripping as much. Recorded with redmi note 5 phone, denoised in audacity plus filtered bass out a bit. P. S. I need to say that i foolishly recorded it into an im app and the recording ended up as. Ogg, so it’s not as good as could be. Still i hope there is enough spectral richness left. I should have used a dedicated recording app which writes. Flac files, i just hadn’t thought. Maybe several days later i’ll make a couple of other takes! (update: now i did. ). ———————. Location: charlotte douglas international airporttime: april 2015. A strong storm hit charlotte, north carolina, and flights got delayed or canceled. The gates got crowded and people were restless. Lots of airline announcements, people talking on their cell phones, airport electric cart beeps, voices in english and a few words here and there in spanish, etc. Don't remember if this was recorded using the zoom h1 or h5 with the xyh-5 x/y microphone capsule.

I wanted to make a sound effect for a game i'm developing, and so i recorded a 100-mm artillery cannon at camp williams (utah national guard), then modified the sounds using audacity. The recording was done on an olympus digital recorder in the mid-2000s (first decade). It sounded a little to me like the tribute cannon from hunger games (the sound effect that signals the deaths of the tributes), thus the name.
